Dynamic Splint Fabrication
When your patient gets stuck and needs an orthosis to progress past a plateau in motion, dynamic splinting is often a great option. But these types of splints are challenging and can be intimidating to fabricate.
First, it's important to know which type of orthosis best meets the patient’s needs. We use the Modified Week’s Scale to help determine if the patient would be best served with a dynamic orthosis, static progressive orthosis or serial progressive orthosis.
The splints are grouped into digit-based, wrist-based and elbow-based. We demonstrate a total of 14 different dynamic orthoses. But beyond that, these principles can be transferred to other orthoses and you will have the knowledge to fabricate countless versions to help your patients progress beyond plateaus.
We also review prefabricated options for digits and elbows. If you have limitations in what you can fabricate, or you need something a little different than a custom fabricated orthosis, there are lots of options out there that may be covered by your patient’s insurance.
We also include information on tips and tricks as well as a materials list to help you get started applying custom fabricated dynamic orthoses to your practice.
This course includes an ebook as well. It includes step-by-step how-to guides for each custom orthosis as well as tips, materials list and information on the Modified Week’s Scale.
Dynamic splinting can get your patient past a plateau. But knowing how to make these unique splints can be tricky. This course will get you ready to make the splints your patients need.
The PIP joint is stubborn and gets stuck easily. We cover outrigger splints, low tech options and prefabricated options.
Outriggers work well for this digit. We demonstrated both splints for flexion and extension.
We cover a few of our favorites to work on composite flexion and stubborn IP stiffness.
Both static progressive and dynamic versions of wrist orthoses are demonstrated in this section.
Static and dynamic options are effective for the elbow. We also cover a serial progressive extension orthosis with a dynamic component.
We cover both a low profile radial palsy and a phoenix outrigger version for either radial palsy or extensor tendon diagnoses.
